Protective Coatings and Conditioners to Preserve Your Leather’s Integrity
Benefits of Our Protective Leather Treatments
Our coatings and conditioners shield your leather from wear and environmental damage, preserving its texture and colour over time.
Protective Treatments for Leather Upholstery
Once leather has been professionally cleaned or restored, it’s essential to protect it properly. At Hampshire Leather Care, we use professional-grade protective coatings and conditioners that are specifically designed to preserve appearance, flexibility, and resistance to everyday wear.
Our protection systems are selected according to leather type — pigmented, semi-aniline, aniline, pull-up, or nubuck — ensuring they perform safely and effectively.
1. Protective Topcoats (for Pigmented & Semi-Aniline Leather)
After colour restoration or repair, we apply a
two-part polyurethane topcoat system — the same technology used in the manufacturing process.
This creates an invisible, flexible barrier that:
- Protects against abrasion, scuffing, and dye transfer
- Adds UV resistance, reducing future fading
- Provides improved cleanability and stain resistance
- Can be adjusted for matt, satin, or gloss sheen levels
These coatings cure to a tough but breathable finish, maintaining the natural feel of the leather while adding long-term durability.
2. Aniline & Pull-Up Leather Protectors
For uncoated or lightly finished leathers, we use
breathable protector creams or sprays that impregnate the surface fibres without altering the look or feel.
These products are based on advanced
fluorocarbon and polymer technology and offer:
- Water and oil repellence to prevent dark spotting
- Resistance to body oils and stains
- Easier cleaning before marks can absorb deeply
- Enhanced colour stability
This treatment is particularly valuable for aniline sofas, chairs, and natural leathers, where protection is minimal from new.
3. Leather Conditioning & Anti-Friction Agents
We finish all work with professional conditioners containing:
- Natural waxes and emollients to maintain flexibility
- Anti-friction and anti-dye-transfer agents to protect high-use areas
- UV stabilisers to reduce sunlight damage
This helps leather remain supple and prevents surface coating fatigue or premature cracking.
4. Specialist Coatings
For certain situations — such as commercial use, light-coloured leathers, or areas prone to staining — we can apply:
- Anti-dye transfer coatings (ideal for pale leathers exposed to denim or dark fabrics)
- Matt protective sealers to tone down gloss finishes after recolouring
- Hydrophobic nano-coatings for advanced resistance to liquids and oils
All coatings are fully tested in our workshop before on-site application to ensure compatibility and even finish.
Ongoing Care
We recommend reapplying protection every 12–18 months, depending on usage and environment. Proper maintenance significantly reduces long-term wear and keeps your leather looking and feeling beautiful for years.
